Housekeeper

We are currently seeking Housekeepers to join our team! In this essential role, you will maintain a high level of cleanliness of Riverbanks Zoo & Garden facilities. This position directly reports to the Environmental Services Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs routine cleaning and upkeep of Riverbanks’ facilities including guest areas, staff areas, and behind-the-scenes.
  • Removes trash and debris.
  • Monitors guest indoor areas and restrooms.
  • Responds promptly to non-routine cleaning issues as they arrive.
  • Support special events and setups by preparing facilities and providing logistical assistance.
  • Follows all zoo safety protocols and procedures.
  • Operates golf carts and various cleaning equipment to perform tasks.

Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent, with three to six months of experience in grounds maintenance, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. The ideal candidate will enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to stand for long periods of time. Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license.

Nature Preschool Instructor

We are currently seeking a Nature Preschool Instructor that has a passion for education and nature. Riverbanks’ Nature Preschool runs from August through May, with the possibility of two additional summer months, in one of our outdoor classrooms. The instructor will ensure that all programs create connections and inspire actions to impact wildlife and wild places. 

Essential Functions:

  • Cooperatively creating child-emergent curriculum and engaging lessons for preschool participants, using nature as the catalyst and reflecting the changing environment through the seasons.
  • Designing weekly preschool learning themes and activities that encourage fine and gross motor skills as well as academic success.
  • Helping with academic assessments on each child to ensure we are providing the activities needed to foster growth in various developmental areas.
  • Assessing behavioral needs and finding innovative ways to address those needs to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Daily parent communications and interactions.
  • Basic first aid response is required. CPR and First Aid training will be provided.
  • Selection and preparation of a healthy, balanced snack each day.
  • Classroom prep and clean-up for each preschool day.
  • Inclusive educational programs that encourage the meaningful participation of all learners.
  • Communication of challenges and opportunities identified in programming.

Project Manager (Construction & Planning)

We are currently seeking a Project Manager who will provide expert leadership in the planning, coordination, and execution of a variety of capital projects that support the continued growth and success of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Reporting to the Director of Construction and Planning, the Project Manager will work collaboratively with cross functional teams, contractors, architects, engineers, and other key partners to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with Riverbanks’ mission and strategic goals. 

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of assigned projects, managing project budgets and timelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining clear communication with internal and external partners throughout the project lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in supporting the Zoo’s infrastructure and facility enhancements, helping create an exceptional experience for guests, staff, and animals alike. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Collaborate and assists Director of Construction and Planning in leading construction projects across all stages of creative development through production and execution.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with all departments and works closely with Zoo and Garden staff. 
  • Ensure all projects are on budget, timeline, and aligned with organizational values and priorities.  
  • Manages and coordinates community contractors, consultants, other professional and technical staff to manage project planning, design and construction.  
  • Provides coordination, design and technical knowledge for diverse projects including building, utility, exhibit and site infrastructural improvements. 
  • Assists in managing project budgets and schedules.  Monitor and document expenditures, track progress and ensure adherence to approved budgets and schedules. 
  • Coordinate consultation and vendor selections processes; coordinates with Procurement Manager. Ensures all purchasing and procurement processes are followed per our guidelines.
  • Assists in overseeing production and reviews design/construction documents produced by consultations including drawings, specification and interpretive materials.  Manage, schedule and oversee internal projects through various stages and of planning and design and facilitate coordination between zoo departments. 
  • Ensure projects are in compliance with codes and policies including: AZA, OSHA, SCDHEC
  • Perform construction contract administration including preparation of orders, requests for information, and progress payments.  Monitor and evaluate design and construction progress, inspect work and ensure completion of all construction projects.
  • Evaluating challenges when they arise and providing solution-based options to address issues and keep the project moving forward.
  • Managing timelines and providing accurate or updated schedule for projects to stakeholders to ensure fluidity of daily operations. 
  • Serves as point of contact for all stakeholders when multiple teams are involved to ensure synergy. 

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in architecture, engineering, project management or construction management is preferred with a minimum of three years of professional project management experience. Previous experience in construction of facility development within a zoo, botanical garden, museum, or other public facing institution is a plus! Any equivalent combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the necessary skills and abilities will be considered. 

A successful Project Manager at Riverbanks Zoo & Garden will be proficient in project management software, budgeting, contract management, and regulatory compliance. Will be a proactive and detailed oriented project leader with a strong background in managing construction or capital improvement projects within dynamic guest focused environments. They will possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a passion for collaboration, and a commitment to delivering high quality results in a mission driven setting. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends based on project needs.

Donor Engagement Specialist

We are currently seeking a Donor Engagement Specialist to join our dynamic team! In this vital position, you will play a key role in cultivating and stewarding Riverbanks’ donors, members, sponsors, and partners. This position supports and helps ensure each donor, member, and sponsor experience is thoughtful, consistent, and reflects Riverbanks’ mission and impact. Reports to the Director of Development.

Essential Functions:

Stewardship 

  • Assists with the development and implementation of a comprehensive stewardship plan to thank, recognize, and engage donors.
  • Coordinates donor acknowledgment and recognition processes, including thank-you letters, emails, and special outreach.
  • Coordinates donor recognition programs and events, ensuring personalized and consistent experiences.
  • Partners with Marketing to create compelling donor and sponsor stories that highlight impact.
  • Assists with planning and logistics for donor appreciation events, tours, and engagement activities.

Corporate Sponsorships

  • Coordinates accurate tracking and fulfillment of deliverables and reporting for all corporate sponsors.
  • Aids in the cultivation of new corporate relationships and supports renewal outreach.
  • Assists with proposals, presentations, and partnership materials.
  • Serves as the internal liaison for sponsor activations and benefits.

Events & Campaign Support

  • Provides coordination and support for major donor stewardship and fundraising events.
  • Assists with campaign-related recognition, communications, and materials.
  • Collaborates to create compelling Annual Fund and campaign stewardship communications.

Administration & Reporting

  • Maintains accurate donor and sponsorship data in CRM systems.
  • Tracks stewardship actions, sponsor deliverables, and event engagement metrics.
  • Provides reports and recommendations for ongoing improvement of stewardship efforts. 
  • Supports Development team projects and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or nonprofit management with 1-2 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or corporate partnerships preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Experience using CRM and POS system software a plus.

The ideal candidate will show initiative and be able to work independently and efficiently under deadlines on a variety of tasks and priorities while working in a collaborative environment and being a team player who will professionally and productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority. This position will have multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrate confidentiality. Will demonstrate attention to detail, prompt follow-through and proficient computer and data entry skills. Outstanding organization, interpersonal, and communication (written and verbal) skills are vital in this role. Flexible for occasional weekend, holiday and after-hours assignments. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver's license.
